A single-herb preparation extracted from the flower of Abelmoschus manihot (hibiscus). It is one of the most extensively studied TCM kidney medicines, with a large meta-analysis of 72 RCTs showing significant reductions in proteinuria. However, all included trials were from China and generally of poor methodological quality.

◆ 临床证据 / Clinical Evidence
A comprehensive meta-analysis (Evidence-Based Complementary Medicine, 2019) of 72 RCTs (4,541+ patients) found that Huangkui plus RAS blocker therapy significantly reduced 24-hour urinary protein (MD −0.39 g/d, p<0.00001), serum creatinine (MD −7.35 μmol/L, p<0.00001), and urinary albumin excretion rate (MD −19.90 μg/min, p<0.00001) compared to RAS blocker alone. A 2023 systematic review confirmed lower BUN, creatinine, and urine protein, with improved GFR. However, all 72 trials were from China with generally poor methodology — none used blinding or allocation concealment. Publication bias was detected.
